Leaders emerge from the next generation

by Angela MacKenzie

This past Saturday (March 17) dozens of professionals gathered together to meet and encourage the next generation of Korean Canadians to follow their dreams. It was an inspiring event for both mentors and for students.

"The mentors have helped many young Korean Canadians, including myself, to realize that once we have a dream, we should not give up until we make it a reality," said Angella Ok, an SFU student and the conference co-ordinator. "It was a great feeling to realize that when it is time for us to enter the Canadian community as professionals ourselves, there will be many mentors who are willing to help guide our way."

Ok worked tirelessly with her conference committee - Shawn Kim, Ivan Lee, Paul Park, Jeannie Jang, Jei Eung Park, Jay Sung and Sam Lee - to make this year's career conference another successs.
Youth and students are sometimes criticized for lacking motivation, enthusiasm and commitment.
But the volunteer students involved in the conference defy those stereotypes by continuing to open up opportunities for their fellow students and giving back to the community.

With the next generation of leaders like Ok and her dedicated team of volunteers, the future of the community looks bright.
