밴쿠버 조선일보 독자들에게
연말을 맞이하고 내년을 바라보면서 저는 우선 여러분께 감사를 드리고 싶습니다.
BC주와 로워 메인랜드의 한인 사회는 우리 지역 사회와 경제, 그리고 우리의 삶의 방식을 향상시키는데 막대한 기여를 했습니다. 이민 1세대와 그 후손들은 BC주에 깊게 뿌리 내렸습니다. 그들의 사업 정신과 근면함 그리고 가족과 지역사회를 향한 강한 헌신으로부터 우리 모두가 혜택을 받고 있습니다.
1년 전, 저는 무역 사절단을 이끌고 한국에 방문했습니다. 한국에서 여러 BC주 기업과 교육기관이 한국의 관련 기관 협약을 맺었습니다. 이를 통해 상품, 의견, 인적 교류를 확대할 수 있었습니다. 지난 달에는 저의 동료인 테레사 와트 장관이 한국을 방문해 사업 기회 확대를 위해 노력했습니다. 한국-캐나다 자유무역협정이 마무리 되면 한국과 BC주의 관계 성장을 계속할 것입니다. 아시아 태평양의 게이트웨이 역할을 하는 캐나다 BC주는 한국과 상호 번영을 위한 주요한 파트너로 성장해갈 것입니다.
BC주가 더 살기 좋은 도시로 발전해 나가는데 주어진 몫 이상으로 헌신하신 여러분께 감사드립니다. 저와 저희 팀은 여러분이 즐거운 연말을 보내시고, 새해를 맞이하시길 기원합니다.

Happy New Year
Dear Readers of the Vancouver Korean Press,
As we reach the end of this year and look ahead to the next, I would like to thank you.
The Korean community in the Lower Mainland and across British Columbia makes a tremendous contribution to our communities, our economy, and our way of life. From first-generation immigrants to those of you whose families have deep roots in BC – we all benefit from your entrepreneurism, work ethic, and strong commitment to family and community.
A year ago, I led a major trade mission to Korea, where several BC businesses and institutions signed agreements with Korean counterparts to increase the exchange of goods, ideas, and people. Last month, my colleague Minister Teresa Wat followed up with another trip to Korea, promoting opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Pacific. With the recent finalization of the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement, our relationship will only continue to grow. As Canada’s gateway to the Asia-Pacific, British Columbia looks to Korea as a partner in mutual prosperity for years to come.
Once again, thank you for doing more than your share to make British Columbia an even better place to live. My team and I wish you all the best this holiday season, and happy new year.
